Spiritual Care at Maynooth Education Campus

Spiritual Care

Spirituality is the search for wholeness, meaning and purpose in life, and it affirms an individual’s inherent dignity and value, while respecting all religious and spiritual paths.

Spiritual Care is an integral part of the holistic education that is provided at Maynooth Educational Campus which seeks to address the diverse needs of mind, body and spirit of the students, so as to promote their wellbeing and health. The education provided is inclusive of the student’s spiritual or religious needs as he or she is growing emotionally, intellectually, physically, and as he or she is learning how to build relationships and make a basic life option.

We draw inspiration from the values of our Irish heritage and we seek to provide an open, caring and compassionate environment that empowers students to draw on their own beliefs and practices for comfort, courage and strength, recognizing the invaluable powers of the human spirit.

Spirituality often becomes more important in times of distress, emotional stress, illness, loss, bereavement. Spirituality views life as a journey, where good and bad experiences can help you to learn, develop and mature.

Spiritual Care Team

Maynooth Education Campus has the services of a Chaplaincy Team led by Fr. Cyril. The primary responsibility of the chaplaincy is to provide spiritual care and support to the school community: students, teachers and parents. This role varies from supporting the teaching of religious education; facilitating reflection, prayer and meditation in the school oratory; meeting students on a group and individual basis; as well as working closely with the pastoral care team in the school. Given the diversity of our student population, the chaplaincy services aim to be inclusive of all faith traditions, providing a sacred space where all feel welcome. It also promotes ecumenical and inter-faith services to mark times of celebration in the school, i.e. Service of Welcome, Leaving Cert Graduation etc.

The school educational environment aims to support the growth and development of each individual student; thus, the dignity of each person is of paramount importance. Along with helping students tap into their own inner resources and resilience, the chaplaincy, through acceptance, respect and kindness, encourages students to explore their personal faith and open themselves to the experience of God’s love for them.
